MoonBeam Zombies 

Catch the trend of these mystical looking hens with allstar laying capability

Most commonly known as "Zombies" - named for their dark skin and sometimes red eyes, we refer to our Zombies with the less common but more graceful name of "Moonbeam" because indeed they look like a chicken in twilight! 

Zombie chickens are modern designer hybrids created for poultry keepers who enjoy the unusual. Drawing from hardy heritage and utility lines, they’re bred to showcase striking white or speckled plummage and expressive dark faces—often with an intense, slightly comical stare. Bred from crossing a breed with fibromelanosis (dark pigmentation) and White Leghorns - despite their spooky appearance, they are excellent egg layers, typically producing 5-6 large eggs per week and extrememly efficient in converting feed to eggs.  We've used only the Lohmann Selected Leghorn (LSL) hens for our Moonbeam Zombie line which are highly productive white-egg layers selectively bred for superior laying performance (the premium racehorse of commercial Leghorns).

These beauties can be solid white or white with black speckles.  Hens have grey to black skin - combs, wattles, beaks and legs. Roosters often have red combs/wattles like their Leghorn mothers.

Important Note

As a complex hybrid, Zombies do not breed true - breeding F1 Zombies together often results in a mix of white, black, or barred birds, as the fibro-melanistic gene (black skin) and white feathering genes do not consistently carry over.
